IT Engineer - Maritime IT (m/f/d)

To strengthen our team, we are looking for an IT Engineer - Maritime IT (m/f/d) to begin as early as possible.

Job Description:

We craft innovative IT systems on land and on board to manage our tanker fleet, which operates throughout Europe. Would you like to play a leading role in making our IT systems even smarter? And do you like being on an equal footing with your users? Then join us on board and become part of our IT team at John T. Essberger.

Your tasks:

  • Operation and further development of IT on our ships and at the head office
  • Configuration and roll-out of the IT infrastructure
  • Steering of contractors and purchasing of system components
  • Delivery and installation of IT systems on board
  • Planning, integration and roll-out of software solutions and updates
  • Monitoring of the IT systems and troubleshooting
  • Carrying out backup and recovery
  • Administration of user profiles and e-mail communication
  • Automation of processes and data transfers between data center, ship, and cloud
  • Alignment of all activities with Ship Management, Crews, and IT
  • Documentation of manuals and quality assurance
  • User support and assistance via the ticket system


Your profile:

  • Completed training or studies in a technical, scientific or economic field; preferably in (specialist) computer science, logistics or a comparable field
  • Work experience in the configuration and administration of IT systems, ideally in a Shipping environment
  • Analytical thinking, problem solving skills and willingness to learn
  • Knowledge of Windows servers and virtualisation
  • Strong knowledge of network management and IT security
  • Working knowledge of PowerShell, Bash, Dualog, Hyper-V, Icinga, IGEL, UniFi or similar tools
  • Initial experience in IT project management or working on IT projects
  • Confident written and spoken English

Job Description:

The SSHEQ department plays a key role in ensuring the safety, health, and environmental compliance of the company's fleets. With a strong focus on safety, environmental protection, compliance and customer satisfaction. Continual improvement is achieved through regular analyses of performance in various areas and involvement of all departments leading to improvement plan generation.

In addition to monitoring the Safety Management System (SMS), the team coordinates and performs audits team members are tasked to deliver various topics during seminars and webinars.

  • Incident investigation

  • Organising external and Audits (internal/ external): Identify trends and corrective/preventive actions with the SSHEQ Manager and SSHEQ superintendents
  • Responsible for the review, revision and development of our safety management system
  • Drive safety performance improvement
  • TMSA: ensure a structured approach in improving JTE rating


Your profile:

  • Seagoing experience at a senior level
  • Knowledge of auditing and vetting
  • Highly motivated
  • Good communication skills
  • Very good written and spoken English
  • Very good MS-Office skills

Your profile:

  • Successfully completed commercial training or comparable qualification as well as professional experience as an assistant (m/f/d) or in processing in the area of finance, accounting and tax
  • Sound knowledge of the shipping industry and corporate law
  • Experience in the preparation of contracts and powers of attorney as well as an understanding of annual financial statements and relevant tax processes
  • Know-how in dealing with KYC requirements and the transparency register
  • Confidence in the use of MS Office, in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Very good written and spoken English skills
  • Maximum discretion and confidentiality when processing sensitive documents and information
  • Organized, structured and independent way of working as well as communication skills and a confident manner in contact with various interfaces
