Duration
1 March 2014 – ongoing
The objectives of the project include:
- Focused crawling and processing of heterogeneous research information from websites of German-language research institutions
- Application and extension of linked data ontologies such as BIBO for a specialist community, adaptation of ontologies to KDSF
- Information and networking with the European VIVO user community
- Dissemination and discussion of own concepts and software developments in the context of the project at scientific conferences and in scientific publications
Description
VIVO is a web-based Open Source infrastructure for research information that is mainly used in the USA and increasingly also in Europe. The aim is to provide reusable, structured research information on the basis of linked open data. VIVO visualisations offer a variety of options for achieving the comparative presentation of information about research activities. Information about certain specialist communities is currently distributed across several sources, e.g. in institutional current research information systems, commercial databases or – as the most important source of information and primary starting point for project tasks – on heterogeneous and usually unstructured, manually maintained researchers’ and institutes’ websites. In the project, data from institutional websites from the research alliance Science 2.0, representing part of the Open Science community, are crawled, structured and imported in VIVO – in a continuously updated form – and linked across institutions.
