Focusing on Human Rights Education

at the Department of Subject-specific Education Research. This is a full-time and permanent position to be filled by the earliest possible starting date.
We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible profile in research and teaching in the area of politics and society education. We expect the successful candidate to have excellent credentials in (quantitative and qualitative) empirical research in teaching and learning in the area of politics education. We would welcome a focus on human rights education in both previous work and research. We also expect experience in interdisciplinary research (with experts focusing on education in other subjects as well as the fields of education and psychology) and success in acquiring third-party funding. The successful candidate will be involved in lecturing in politics and society education (primary school, secondary schools (Mittelschule, Realschule, Gymnasium) and vocational schools) and in school placements. We expect a willingness to actively collaborate with the Center for Teacher Education and to become involved in the Center for Human Rights Erlangen-Nürnberg (CHREN) and the Interdisciplinary Center for Empirical Research into Teaching and Learning (IZeLL) at FAU.
Successful candidates should demonstrate an excellent academic track record in research and teaching at the highest international standards. They should have substantial research experience abroad and/or international cooperations as well as experience in managing research projects and in raising third-party funding. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree as well as a passion for education and relevant teaching experience are prerequisites. Candidates who are able and willing to teach in both English and German are preferred. The position also requires additional postdoctoral qualifications. These should be in the form of a habilitation (postdoctoral thesis) or equivalent academic qualifications. Full Professor of School Education
focusing on research into the teaching profession and educational participation
(salary group W3)
at the Department of Education at the Institute of Educational Science. This is a full-time and permanent position to be filled by the earliest possible starting date.
We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible profile in research and teaching in the area of school education. The successful candidate will focus on the particular challenges of the professionalization of teachers with a particular focus on encouraging educational participation among children and young people as well as the development of schools in structurally disadvantaged areas. The professor will have a track record in empirical research on learning and instruction in general, and professionalization in particular. The professor will be expected to become actively involved in research at FAU on the topic of human rights. We expect high publication activity, in particular in peer-reviewed journals, as well as extensive experience in raising (competitive) third-party funding.
Teaching duties will cover courses in school education for teacher training programs (Lehramtsstudiengänge) at FAU, in particular for lower secondary schools (Mittelschule). We expect the professor to take the heterogeneity of pre-service teachers into account, particularly in view of their educational biography, previous experience, academic socialization and specific learning needs. The professor will be required to participate in the Master’s degree program Empirical Educational Research. We also expect active involvement in collaborative research and participation in the FAU Competence Center Teaching, and active involvement in the Center for Teacher Education.
The person to be appointed will contribute to the Excellence Cluster “Transforming Human Rights” at FAU by developing innovative concepts for anchoring educational participation in the school context, focusing in particular on professionalizing teaching.

We seek to appoint an internationally recognized leader in modern and contemporary history who can represent the field in its entire temporal and substantive breadth. An emphasis on Eastern European history is required; a focus on Central and Eastern European history is desirable, as well as the consideration of transcontinental and global connections. The professor will be expected to participate in the Cluster of Excellence “Transforming Human Rights”. Proven success in acquiring third-party funding and a well-established research profile demonstrated through internationally visible publications and a scholarly network are expected. Experience in interdisciplinary collaborative research and Digital Humanities are expected. The professor is expected to participate in all Bachelor’s, teacher training, and Master’s programs offered by the Department of History, and contribute to the department’s profile.

The Faculty of Medicine at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) invites applications for a
tenure-track position as Associate Professor of
Neuroanatomy and Developmental Neurobiology
(salary group W2)
at the Chair of Microscopic Anatomy and Molecular Imaging. The position is to be filled by the earliest possible starting date for an initial period of six years. FAU offers the long-term perspective of a permanent appointment to an associate professorship if the requirements of the tenure evaluation are met. The professor will be responsible for teaching and research in the field of neuroanatomy and developmental neurobiology.
We seek to appoint an internationally recognized leader in neuroanatomy and developmental neurobiology. The professorship is aimed at strengthening FAU’s focus on neurosciences. We expect candidates to have conducted internationally visible research in the field, evidenced through high-level publications and success in acquiring competitive third-party funding (e.g. EU, DFG; BMBF). The professor is expected to employ a wide range of methods encompassing modern optical, molecular biological, biochemical and/or cell biological methods aimed at elucidating (patho-)physiological mechanisms of decision-making during the development of the nervous system. The professor is expected to play an active part in existing research networks and in developing new interdisciplinary consortia. The successful candidate is expected to have relevant experience in teaching neuroanatomy, embryology and/or developmental biology. The language of instruction is predominantly German in the degree programs Medicine, Dentistry and Molecular Medicine. Other degree programs taught at the Faculty of Medicine include Logopedics, Midwifery Sciences, Advanced Immunomedicine, Medical Engineering, Master in Health and Medical Management, Master of Health Business Administration, and Master of Science integrated Immunology.

The Faculty of Sciences at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) and the Helmholtz Center Berlin for Materials and Energy (HZB) invite applications in a joint application procedure for an
Associate Professor of Experimental Physics focusing on AI-based research of biomolecular structures
(salary group W2)
at the Department of Physics. This is a full-time and permanent position to be filled by the earliest possible starting date. The professorship also entails the leadership of a department at HZB.
The HZB is one of the 18 research centers in the Helmholtz Association and operates one of the world’s most productive facilities for the structural analysis of macromolecular structures at the synchrotron radiation source BESSY II. To efficiently analyze the large volumes of data obtained and to solve complex macromolecular structures, the development and use of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning will increasingly be required.
FAU and HZB are jointly appointing a professorship for the use of Artificial Intelligence in the research of biomolecular structures. The appointed person should have extensive international experience in the fields of:
- neural networks, machine learning, and software design,
- protein structure and functions,
- structure determination of macromolecules using cryo-electron microscopy and X-ray crystallography, as well as
- small molecule structure elucidation using crystallographic methods.
The focus of the research should be on the development of AI-based analysis methods for macromolecular single crystal diffraction data. Furthermore, experience in leading research groups, managing scientific projects, acquiring third-party funding, and engaging in national and international collaborations is required. A willingness to collaborate within the Department of Physics, particularly by introducing AI-based methods into the areas of light and matter, quantum materials, biophysics, new materials and processes, as well as initiating or participating in collaborative research centers and other research networks, is expected. Teaching at the Department of Physics at FAU amounts to at least two hours per week per semester.
Further responsibilities of the professorship include leading and developing staff and supporting early-career researchers. Candidates must act in awareness of gender equality, diversity sensitivity and sustainability. Contributions to knowledge and technology transfer are highly desirable, initiatives for internationalization are welcomed, and participation in committees and commissions is also expected.

The research focus should be in the field of natural and synthetic minerals regarding sustainable geomaterials, for example in the development of construction materials or the storage of carbon and hydrogen.
