Full Professor of Politics and Society Education

Focusing on Human Rights Education
(salary group W3)

at the Department of Subject-specific Education Research. This is a full-time and permanent position to be filled by the earliest possible starting date.

We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible profile in research and teaching in the area of politics and society education. We expect the successful candidate to have excellent credentials in (quantitative and qualitative) empirical research in teaching and learning in the area of politics education. We would welcome a focus on human rights education in both previous work and research. We also expect experience in interdisciplinary research (with experts focusing on education in other subjects as well as the fields of education and psychology) and success in acquiring third-party funding. The successful candidate will be involved in lecturing in politics and society education (primary school, secondary schools (Mittelschule, Realschule, Gymnasium) and vocational schools) and in school placements. We expect a willingness to actively collaborate with the Center for Teacher Education and to become involved in the Center for Human Rights Erlangen-Nürnberg (CHREN) and the Interdisciplinary Center for Empirical Research into Teaching and Learning (IZeLL) at FAU.

Successful candidates should demonstrate an excellent academic track record in research and teaching at the highest international standards. They should have substantial research experience abroad and/or international cooperations as well as experience in managing research projects and in raising third-party funding. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree as well as a passion for education and relevant teaching experience are prerequisites. Candidates who are able and willing to teach in both English and German are preferred. The position also requires additional postdoctoral qualifications. These should be in the form of a habilitation (postdoctoral thesis) or equivalent academic qualifications. These qualifications may also have been achieved in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as Assistant Professor). In addition, candidates are expected to be qualified to teach politics and society or a comparable subject with another name (such as social studies, political science, social sciences) and to have a minimum of three years teaching experience at a school or comparable educational institution.

The Faculty of Medicine at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) invites applications for a

Full Professor of Physiology

(salary group W3)

at the Institute of Physiology and Pathophysiology. This is a full-time and permanent position to be filled by April 1, 2027 at the earliest. The professorship’s responsibilities will include management of the Institute of Physiology and Pathophysiology in addition to teaching and research in the area of physiology.

We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible profile in research and teaching. The aim of the professorship is to strengthen the Faculty’s focus on neuroscience. We expect outstanding research achievements and adaptable integrative concepts in the area of cellular and/or systemic neurophysiology. Furthermore, the professorship is expected to make an active contribution to existing research collaborations and to become involved in establishing new interdisciplinary consortia. Relevant teaching experience and innovative concepts for teaching the curriculum in physiology are required. The professor will be expected to teach predominantly in German and in the degree programs Medicine, Dentistry, and Molecular Medicine.

Applicants should have a proven ability to manage clinical operations economically and efficiently. We expect their excellent academic achievements to be evidenced by high-quality, internationally visible publications, as well as by consistent success in securing competitive third-party funding.

Successful candidates should demonstrate an excellent academic track record in research and teaching at the highest international standards. They should have substantial research experience abroad and/or international cooperations as well as experience in managing research projects and in raising third-party funding. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree as well as a passion for education and relevant teaching experience are prerequisites. Candidates who are able and willing to teach in both English and German are preferred. The position also requires additional postdoctoral qualifications. These should be in the form of a habilitation (postdoctoral thesis) or equivalent academic qualifications. We would welcome a qualification as a physician for physiology or as a specialist physiologist.

Full Professor of Clinical Nuclear Medicine

(salary group W3)

at the Department of Nuclear Medicine. This is a full-time and permanent position to be filled by the earliest possible starting date. The professor will also be appointed as Head of the Department of Nuclear Medicine.

We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible profile in research and teaching. We are looking for an individual who has several years of management experience in both clinical and scientific areas and both the team and goal-oriented leadership skills required to manage a medical department. We expect the successful candidate to work closely with the neighboring disciplines of diagnostic imaging and other departments at Universitätsklinikum Erlangen (including rheumatology, endocrinology, oncology and cardiology), both in research and clinical fields (hybrid imaging and therapy methods).

Imaging and medical technology are an important research focus area at the Faculty of Medicine and other faculties of the University, and these fields have been significantly strengthened by strategic appointments in recent years. We wish to continue this positive development by appointing a professor with an outstanding research profile, who has obtained suitable third-party funding and internationally recognized scientific achievements.

Furthermore, the professor will be expected to collaborate with the research networks (including NCT WERA and DZI), collaborative research centers and research training groups at the Faculty of Medicine, FAU and other clinical departments of Universitätsklinkum Erlangen.

The professor’s teaching obligation is based on the teaching obligation regulations for Bavarian universities (LUFV). Degree programs taught at the Faculty of Medicine include Medicine, Dentistry, Molecular Medicine (BSc and MSc), Medical Process Management and Medical Engineering and Integrated Immunology in partnership with other faculties. The professor will be expected to participate in teaching these degree programs.

The Faculty of Sciences at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) and the Helmholtz Center Berlin for Materials and Energy (HZB) invite applications in a joint application procedure for an

Associate Professor of Experimental Physics focusing on AI-based research of biomolecular structures

(salary group W2)

at the Department of Physics. This is a full-time and permanent position to be filled by the earliest possible starting date. The professorship also entails the leadership of a department at HZB.

The HZB is one of the 18 research centers in the Helmholtz Association and operates one of the world’s most productive facilities for the structural analysis of macromolecular structures at the synchrotron radiation source BESSY II. To efficiently analyze the large volumes of data obtained and to solve complex macromolecular structures, the development and use of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning will increasingly be required.

FAU and HZB are jointly appointing a professorship for the use of Artificial Intelligence in the research of biomolecular structures. The appointed person should have extensive international experience in the fields of:

  • neural networks, machine learning, and software design,
  • protein structure and functions,
  • structure determination of macromolecules using cryo-electron microscopy and X-ray crystallography, as  well as
  • small molecule structure elucidation using crystallographic methods.

The focus of the research should be on the development of AI-based analysis methods for macromolecular single crystal diffraction data. Furthermore, experience in leading research groups, managing scientific projects, acquiring third-party funding, and engaging in national and international collaborations is required. A willingness to collaborate within the Department of Physics, particularly by introducing AI-based methods into the areas of light and matter, quantum materials, biophysics, new materials and processes, as well as initiating or participating in collaborative research centers and other research networks, is expected. Teaching at the Department of Physics at FAU amounts to at least two hours per week per semester.

Further responsibilities of the professorship include leading and developing staff and supporting early-career researchers. Candidates must act in awareness of gender equality, diversity sensitivity and sustainability. Contributions to knowledge and technology transfer are highly desirable, initiatives for internationalization are welcomed, and participation in committees and commissions is also expected.
